Fresh off the tava |
This was a part of our 10 days Spain trip. We were in Madrid and decided to take a train to Toledo The first day we reached the station late and ended up booking the ticket for the next day i.e 24th December. Th next day, we reached Toledo early and walked into a misty cold city.

The walk up to Toledo |
Its a nice walk up the hill to the city and we enjoyed it in spite of the cold..The first stop was a souvenir shop. The lady warned us that today being Christmas eve, everything would close early ( She was from Kerala, which was something we noted in Spain..a lot of Indian running small businesses there). As warned, Alcazar was closed. We rang up the train helpline and managed to change train timing. With a hour or two to kill, we walked around ,now in a more leisurely manner. We came across a stall with a crowd eating in small plastic plates with beer..this at 11 in the morning.

Migas Manchengas ( Hope it is
spelt right) |
There being food to be eaten, we inquired and were told that for an Euro...yes €1, one got a plate of this and a glass of beer. This was what we would call bread poha in India, with sausages and pork thrown in , and cooked in white wine. Locals eat this after they come out from Church ( at least thats what we figured out in through broken english, spanish and sign language).

second plate ( from a second stall) |
That was the first stall, and some time later, we stumbled across another bigger one near the Church. Well, we might have missed the Military museum of Alcazar, but instead we got a truly wonderful local experience . Standing in the queue, waiting for fresh batches to be made, eating and generally soaking in the atmosphere of families around is something I can still recall vividly.
The mists cleared, and the sun came out and generally our mood lifted a bit after that.

'Sir..may i have more please' |
So nowdays we look for our Toledo moments i.e when things don't go as per plan, we keep our hearts and minds open to whatever alternate experience is lying in store for us.
