The year that was 2020

The one excuse not to blog regularly has now disappeared. The lack of a 'proper' laptop was my excuse not to blog regularly. Also, i find it easier to write with a pen and paper. Its oddly old fashioned, but then it's like reading a book. Kindle is practical, light, stores tons of books, but at the end of the day cannot beat the pleasure of a paper book. It's a tactile sensation of paper , the volume of the book and yet the lightness.

Times change and one must adapt.  Correct that, in order to not adapt ,takes more effort over time. Its sensible to adapt, unless one is convinced enough to make the effort to retain the 'old' and mostly more cumbersome ways.

The year is coming to an end. It's been a landmark year, which will not be forgotten.two decades into the new millenium and a flu has brought the world to a standstill. Man was proud of medical advances, genome mapping, playing God by creating life in test tubes, and then the world went batshit crazy. Distances and barriers which were being made irrelevant suddenly had to be resurrected.

Be careful what you wish for, for you might get it.. this must have gone through countless minds as work from home is now a reality. No one misses the commute, but working from home isnt as cracked up as one thought it was.

On a personal front too, life has been tough. There has been a major illness in the family and a death. Life however goes on.

2020 will be defined by the pandemic for the world, but for me personally, it will always be the year my father passed away. All the year has taught me is that, one can plan, and its good to plan with an eye on the future, however it is important to also remain in the present. Create happy memories for yourself and others around you. Show love to your loved ones and as importantly show the love to yourself. Love and not indulgence.

The thoughts of money dominated the last few years and now maybe it is relationships that will be the defining thought into the third decade of the millenium. The last few years was about predicting and controlling ( at least trying to ) the future, and now it would be about living the present as well as possible.
