My journey to quitting smoking

Its all happening here !!

Have joined about.coms course to quit smoking.

The first step is to think about the reasons/motivations on why I want to quit. I plan to do this while going on my run today (hmm should be interesting..gasp gasp my lungs are killing me..gasp..now why..gasp ..did I ...gasp..want to..gasp..quit smok..gasp...ing)

Also, its recommended that I keep an regular quitting smoking journal. That's the simple part, I am going to combine my running journal with the quitting smoking journal. The best part is , quitters ( smoking not running) experience a weight gain and here I am running to lose weight and my quitting smoking can lead to weight gain!!

Oh well, I have abused my body enough for the last..lets see..since 1997, so thats 12 years of the following sins - 1. smoking, 2. drinking regularly, 3. over eating ( well I am 20 kgs overweight)

So its payback time!!!

Every journey starts with a small step and this is my small step.

What I plan to think about while running:
1. Why I smoke, When do I feel the need to smoke and what do I find appealing (e.g my daydream, I am biking on the Himalayas, and then stop my bike in front of some majestic ranges and sitting in my solitary splendour, light up and in my minds eye look impossibly cool)

2. Why I want to quit,

3. What are the barriers that stop me from quitting.

Also, instead of just counting the cigarettes, I plan to track the time on which I smoke them.

So my next post will be my reflections on the 3 points above.
